Some people have asked me why I blog. Do I want attention? Don't I have anything better to do? Do I like talking about myself? None of the above.



First Day at Apple

The next 2 weeks will be my last weeks at Sun. I'll be working for Apple starting on June 15. I'm very excited to start my new job at Apple, but it's also sad to leave Sun knowing that it is getting acquired by Oracle. Read more...

 

Love at First Mac

Last week, my brother prodded me to write an iPhone application. My husband and daughter are also avid iPod Touch users, so I figured I should give it a shot. Besides, it would give me a good start at mobile computing. I joined the iPhone Dev Center to find out more about what it takes to write an iPhone app. After reading the requirements, I realized that I was missing one important thing -- I don't have a Mac. Ins and Outs of Outsourcing

My company started outsourcing IT application development and maintenance more than 5 years ago. I was fortunate enough to be retained in the IT Service Management organization the year that the transition happened. It was not easy for me to see many people that I knew as they were laid off. Goals for 2009

A 17-day vacation spanning Christmas through the New Year was a much needed break. I had to control myself not to use the computer as much during the break, and I promised myself to do the following in 2009:

  1. Stay fit by running 3 miles 3 times a week. Running on Mondays,Tuesdays, and Thursdays with Girlie.
  2. Run three 5K races and beat my current time of 00:27:40. I ran the following races with a new personal best time of 00:27:07:
  3. Cook healthy meals for my family. I've been cooking healthy home-cooked meals whenever possible.
  4. Play 20 piano pieces by Bach and Beethoven. So far I can play 2 piano pieces by Bach, 3 by Beethoven.
  5. Learn to play the violin. Currently learning on my own using "Suzuki Violin School Volume 1".
  6. Rediscover sketching and painting (it's been more than 20 years since my last artwork!).
  7. Keep this website current.

I'll leave this list here so that I can check my progress and look at it again on December 31, 2009.
